Orthodox Good Friday in the United Kingdom is an important day of prayer and reflection for many Eastern Orthodox Christians. On this day, the faithful attend church services which commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death on the cross. Special services, such as Matins (Orthros) and the Vespers of the Taking Down from the Cross, are conducted. Fasting and prayer are observed throughout the day, and the faithful may also take part in pilgrimages to nearby churches or holy sites.
