Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. On the seventh day of Hanukkah in Israel, families and communities come together to light the Hanukkah menorah, also known as a hanukkiah. Special prayers are recited, and traditional foods such as latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts) are enjoyed. Children often play with dreidels, which are spinning tops, and exchange small gifts or chocolate coins known as gelt. It is a time to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
